In 1988, in order to promote “the education of awareness” and provide the best educational environment for the next generation, Grand Master Wei Chueh, the founder of Chung Tai Chan Monastery, dedicated himself to the establishment of Pu Tai Elementary and Junior High School. After six years of preparation and construction, the Elementary School opened for the 2004 school year, and the Junior High School began enrollment in the summer of 2006. Today, Pu Tai Elementary and Junior High School has grown to 1500 students. The completion of Pu Tai Senior High School represents the fulfillment of the Grand Master’s goal of providing a complete 12-year educational system.
Pu Tai Senior High School’s special curriculum is designed to provide a holistic education. The four language (English, Japanese, French, and Spanish) courses help students to establish international connections. Classical Chinese literature courses immerse students in traditional culture, and Chinese calligraphy courses improve and calm the mind. Zen study develops life power, and liberal arts courses, which include expert seminars, expand students’ horizons. The campus provides dormitories for students and has many special facilities, that include an Astronomy Center, a Chinese Literature Center, and a Foreign Language Center. The library and resource centers, sports facilities, art and music classrooms, and nature and science labs are each state-of-the-art.
The Pu Tai Schools borrow their motto from Chung Tai Chan Monastery: “To our elders be respectful; To our juniors be kind; With all humanity be harmonious; In all endeavors be true”. The Schools provide an excellent leaning environment to produce accomplished and ethically responsible pillars of society.
