On October 10th, 2000, the Buddha Gate Monastery opened its doors in Lafayette, California. Buddha Gate has attracted a great number of local Buddhists as well as people of all ages who are new to Buddhism.

According to the scriptures, there were sixteen arhats during Buddha's time. They were to forsake nirvana and remain in the world, to be venerated by worldly beings, and to help all sentient beings attain enlightenment.

Stand in a secluded corner and observe the serene and empty sky, the rugged surrounding mountains, even the booming city of Lafayette in front of you; you may suddenly come to realize that the mind is as vast as the cosmos and as bright as the stars, and that we are one with nature.
